Site Description: A sheltered muddy triangular shaped bay on the south west side of Larne Lough. On the east side are boulders on mud extending to the headland. On these is a patchy fucoid zonation. The west end has a railway embankment again with patchy fucoids. A freshwater stream with associated Fucus ceranoides and Ulva (originally recorded as Enteromorpha) flows onto the shore from the south. A wedge of gravel extends into the middle shore apparently brought down by the freshwater stream. The bay has a lower shore of soft mud containing a great many nereids (mostly large specimens) and some Corophium. Mya are found occasionally. The middle shore is muddy though somewhat firmer with some muddy sand. Corophium, nereids and some Macoma occur, the latter tending to be near the surface. Some Carcinus occurs within the mud. The upper shore has dried clay 'ridges' amongst muddy gravel with small boulders widely dispersed. A patchy fucoid zonation occurs.
