Site Description: The main habitat was fairly extensive soft mud flats occurring in the mid and lower shores. They are walkable. The flats extend from a railway embankment forming a brackish lagoon backing. The infauna was abundant with many polychaetes and Corophium with some Mytilus occurring on the surface. The black layer was indistinct and approx. 2 cm from the surface. Euglena(?) occurred on the surface. A fast flowing brackish stream flows from the lagoon backing the shore. This lagoon empties at low tide and refills on high tide. The upper shore boulders through which the stream flows is rich in flora and fauna. The upper shore was muddy, but had stones, gravel and shingle, with a patchy fucoid zonation. This became more distinctive on the embankment. The upper zone was Pelvetia; Fucus spiralis; Ascophyllum with Fucus vesiculosus which became more dominant towards the lower shore.
