Site Description: The transect site lies across the southern part of Millin Bay, just below a sandstone ridge outcrop. The transect runs from a fringing layer of shingle, over a relatively steep upper shore of sand, gravel and pebbles, and across an extensive low tide flat of fine and medium sand. A seawater inlet cuts the low tide flat in two. The low tide flat holds many wet areas, while there is some freshwater seepage from beneath the shingle on the upper shore. In addition, a layer of clay breaks through the sand just to the south of the transect on the upper shore. The seaward end of the low tide flat supports dense concentrations of Lanice conchilega tubes on the surface, whereas Arenicola casts become more important further up the beach.
