Site Description: The shore is an exposed headland with a limestone block scree substrata. The limestone generally coming from the quarry which is above the shore, and from demolished buildings at the quarry. The main habitats are the blocks themselves, crevices and puddles formed on the blocks and pebbles that exist between the blocks. The latter though tends to be barren except for a few amphipods, feeding on the drift. Most of the organisms occur on the tops and sides of the boulders in a very indistinct zonation pattern. The type of zonation and the width of the zones largely depend upon the orientation of the surfaces of attachment to wave action. They tend to become wider with increased wave action. Comparison with Stage I data shows that a natural change has occurred with the disappearance of a Fucus spiralis zone and the thinning of barnacle cover.
