Site Description: A large bay on the western side of Strangford Lough that almost completely empties through a narrow channel at low water, forming extensive mud and sand flats. The bay has a convoluted appearance with small bays around the edges, the northern most of which are sandy. the remainder and centre of the bay is muddy. The bay has an upper shore of shingle for much of its boundary with boulders and some ridges occurring in the narrows. Grab samples were taken at two muddy sites in the middle and towards the west of the bay. Sandy areas of the north bay were dug to find infauna.
