Survey number: 555 Event number: 19851017/21 Date: 1985-10-17 GPS: 54.02300,-6.06583. Depth: 3.5 to 0.2 m. [ View map ]

Site Description: The extreme upper shore is sandy shingle, steeply sloping and with a line of freshwater pools at its base. Below this is a moderately sloping upper intertidal of coarse sand, which is in turn above a low tide flat of fine sand. The sand flat has surface water, a higher Arenicola density than the upper shore, and diatoms in the hollows between the ripple marks. Tranches were dug at low water, and revealed Echinocardium in large numbers. Ensis and sand eels were also found. Lanice was present at the lower two levels, and Tellinidae and Nephtys found at the bottom four transect sites.
