Site Description: Bushfoot Strand is a high energy steeply shelving sandy beach. The lower shore at the transect site holds an extensive. level sandy platform. The coastal backing is sand dunes. A line of boulders lies in the sand at high tide level. The sediment was coarser at the middle three transect levels than on either the upper or the lower shore. No black layer was discovered at any height. Interstitial salinity at level 4 was 34 parts per thousand. There was a rock outcrop to the south of the Strand, covered in irregular igneous nodules, smooth surfaced, with deep rock pools; wide shallow rock pools and rock pools. Some of the pools held overhangs. The rock outcrop held a good diversity of algae, while the boulders were covered only in a Ulothrix/Urospora turf.
