Site Description : Wreck of S.S. Lochgarry and adjacent seabed of boulders with muddy sand, with very tide-swept faunal communities. Circalittoral tide-swept mixed gravel, stone and boulders, wave-sheltered, with deep-water hydroids and sponges. Areas of muddy sand in the lee of the wreck with sea pens (Virgularia mirabilis) and many free-living cup corals at the surface of the gravel near the wreck.

East coast Rathlin circalittoral zone seabed of boulders and stony gravel with hydroids and sponges. Common sunstar Crossaster papposus [00:00:38]; Devonshire cup corals Caryophyllia smithii [00:01:07]; discarded lobster pot and free-living cup corals in sediment [00:01:25]; muddy sediment with sea pens Virgularia mirabilis [00:02:00]; rose coral Pentapora foliacea [00:02:27]; cup-shaped sponge Axinella infundibuliformis [00:03:25]; Hornwrack bryozoan Flustra foliacea [00:03:35]; mixed hydroids Diphasia alata and Polyplumaria flabellata [00:04:20]; Staghorn sponge Axinella dissimilis [00:04:34]; yellow sponge Myxilla incrustans [00:04:51]; orange sponge Myxilla fimbriata [00:04:55]; bryozoan Securiflustra securifrons [00:05:03].

Biotope 1 : Circalittoral tide-swept boulders, wave-sheltered, with deep-water hydroids and sponges. Deep sponge communities (circalittoral).

Biotope 2 : Wreck. Very tide-swept faunal communities.

Biotope 3 : Areas of muddy sand in the lee of the wreck with sea pens (Virgularia mirabilis) and many free-living cup corals at the surface of the gravel near the wreck. Sublittoral mixed sediment.
