Site Description: A large sheltered expanse of sand and isolated patches of muddy sand, with a horizontal distance of approx. 1.5 km. The shore is backed by shallow dunes to the north and saltmarsh bordering the Roe Estuary to the south. A small tongue of saltmarsh extends onto the shore from which occurs man made boulder ridges from which extensive mussel beds several hundred metres long are formed in the middle and lower shores. This area seems very rich for infauna, and is known to be important for wintering birds. A part of the area is in the Roe Estuary Nature Reserve.
