Site Description: The location is a headland of limestone on which Kinbane Castle occurs. Generally the whole peninsula is vertical limestone rock with platforms at the base of some. A small basalt area is present in some shelter. This has fucoid zonation, and appears richer than the exposed limestone platforms. The transect site was situated on an exposed limestone rock face which is almost vertical. The rock is eroded and has crevices and small pits with sharp edges. No rock pools occur. Either side of the transect site are small wave cut platforms which have many rock pools, crevices and overhangs. A species search was done in these areas. The zonation was wide, reaching high onto the cliffs. The intertidal zones had a greenish hue on the normally white limestone. This may be sporelings or rock borers. On the platforms, the zonation was basically the same except that the Patella zone was almost integrated into Porphyra zone and the Corallina zone was much wider and had much Himanthalia present and many Mytilus.
