This extensive working quarry exploiting the Lower Basalt Formation has a rich assemblage of zeolite minerals. Zeolites are hydrated aluminosilicates most commonly associated with basaltic lavas where they line bubble cavities and natural fractures. Zeolites recorded from the quarry include analcime, mesolite, chabazite, cowlesite and possibly laumontite. Calcite and the clay mineral saponite also occur here.
Because the quarry is still working, it may not be possible to see the full range of zeolites at any one time. The nature of the final faces when the quarry ceases operation will determine its potential for designation. To maintain interest the faces would require periodic refreshment.
