Summary of site:

Crystals of the mineral quartz (silicon dioxide), dolomite (calcium magnesium carbonate), calcite (calcium carbonate) and, less commonly, of pyrite (iron sulphide), chalcopyrite (copper iron sulphide) and bornite (another copper iron sulphide with more copper) have been found in irregular cavities in the local Ballyshannon Limestone here. Although small (up to 1 cm long) many of these crystals are beautifully formed. This suite was created when hot, mineral-rich solutions percolated through the rock.

Old maps suggest that there was once a small mine on this site.
