This huge shake hole is cliff-lined on three sides. A waterfall drains into an obvious sink; attempts to divert the flow have identified a second sink on the flat floor. In exceptional rain, the sinks flood and water up to 2m deep can build up. Dye testing has proved that the water from Pollmore emerges at Carrickbeg, taking 14 hours to pass through the system.
This site highlights the serious threat posed by uncontrolled dumping. Massive amounts of domestic waste (even cars) not only deface this splendid natural feature but also extensively pollute one of Northern Ireland's finest cave systems - presenting a serious health hazard.
