Summary of site:
Cascades Rising Cave is one of only two entrances to the Prod's Pot – Cascades system, the other being Prod's Pot itself. It was excavated in 1976 when exploration through the upper part of the system reached daylight.
The cave entrance lies at the head of what is now a dry valley some 15-20m above and to the right of the active Cascades in Cladagh Glen. Immediately through the entrance a tight squeeze descends to the stream. The following 150m of passages, fully described in the Prod's Pot – Cascades overview (Key Site 1155), are unique because they are formed in the Glencar Limestone Formation, which has never been considered susceptible to cave formation. This section of the cave is a network of low, wet crawls and ends in the Boulder Series, expansive boulder-strewn passages in the Knockmore Limestone Member of the Dartry Limestone immediately above.
