Codium tomentosum Stackhouse


Description: Thallus dichotomously branched, terete, to over 20 cms long with a felt-like surface and spongy feel. Utricles with rounded apices.

Habitat: Uncommon. Epilithic in rock pools of the lower littoral.

Distribution: Mainly on the western shores of the British Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Azores, Portugal, Spain, France, Netherlands and Norway. Further afield: Sri Lanka and Japan.

Similar Species: Othere species of Codium save C. adhaerens and C.bursa.
