Description: Thallus dichotomously branched, terete, to over 25 cms long with a felt-like surface and spongy feel. Utricles, sharply pointed.
Habitat: Common. Epilithic in mid-littoral rock pools and the upper sublittoral.
Distribution: Widespread in the British Isles. Europe: Spain, France, Norway and Iceland. Atlantic coast of North America: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Long Island and Virginia.
Similar Species: Other branched species of Codium do not have a mucronate utricles.
