Cladophora laetevirens (Dillwyn) Kützing


Description: Thallus filamentous to 10 cms long, growing regularly branched as bushy tufts.

Habitat: Epilithic, epiphytic or epizoic in rock pools of the littoral and shallow sublittoral.

Distribution: Widely distributed around the British Isles from the Shetlands to the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Portugal, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Baltic Sea. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada and Massachusetts also the Caribbean. Further afield: Ghana, Tanzania and Australia.

Similar Species: Most species of Cladophora are similar and difficult to identify, may be under-recorded.
