Description: Very small uniseriate filaments with branched prostrate and erect axes rising to 2-3 mm long.
Habitat: Rare. Epiphytic on algae of the low and sublittoral to a depth of 5 m.
Distribution: From a few sites in Ireland: Galway and Mayo, Devon in England and north Wales and the Channel Islands. Europe: Portugal and Atlantic coasts of Spain and France, Baltic Sea and Norway. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Massachusetts, Virginia. Further afield: Canary Islands, Australia and California.
Similar Species: All species of Acrochaetium and Colaconema are similar and microscopic examination is required for identification.
