Halopithys incurvus (Hudson) Batters


Description: Thallus terete and erect to 30 cms long, in transverse section shows a central cell with 5 or 6 pericentrals, fully corticat. Densley branched, many branches bear secund ramuli inrolled and tapering at the apices.

Habitat: Epilithic at extreme low littoral to 13 m.

Distribution: In the British Isle known only on the south coast of England: Cornwall to Kent also the Channel Islands with one record from Co. Kerry in Ireland. Europe: Mediterranean, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France. Further afield: the Canary Islands and Mauritania.
