Description: Very small uniseriate filaments with few branches growing within the cell walls of another alga.
Habitat: Rare. Endophytic in the cell wall of Gastroclonium ovatum, sublittoral to 10 m.
Distribution: Devon in England, Bute in Scotland, Dublin, Cork and Wexford in Ireland. Europe: Mediterranean and the Atlantic shores of Portugal, Spain and France.
Similar Species: All species of Colaconema are similar, microscopic examination is required for identification.
