Dasya hutchinsiae Harvey


Description: Thallus erect to 10 cms long, The main polysiphonous axis has 5 periaxial cells, irregularly branched covered with fine branched ramuli.

Habitat: Sublittoral and in deep rock pools.

Distribution: A south-western species, widely distributed in Ireland, south-west England, Wales and the Isle of Man also from western Scotland and the Channel Islands. Europe: Portugal, Atlantic Spain and France. Further afield: Canary Islands and Virgin Islands..

Similar Species: Brongniartella byssoides has 5 - 6 perixials but ecorticate. Other species of the genus Dasya are difficult to discrimate unless fertile.
