Description: Unbranched uniseriate filaments to 12 cms or more in length. Attached becoming curled and twisted

Habitat: Mainly in the upper littoral, also on mud in estuaries and salt-marches.

Distribution: Widely distributed around the British Isles. Europe: France, Netherlands, the Baltic and Norway. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine and New Hampshire. Further afield: South Africa.

Similar Species: Other species of Ulothrix, Urospora and Rhizoclonium, the distinction is microscopic.
