Cladophora prolifera (Roth) Kützing


Description: Thallus filamentous, tufted to 25 cms long. Branches acropetally organised, the oldest at the base.

Habitat: Very rare. In shaded rock pools of the low-littoral and in the sublittoral to 30 m.

Distribution: Few scattered records in the British Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Azores, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France.

Similar Species: Most species of Cladophora are similar and difficult to identify, may be under-recorded.
