Cladophora pellucida (Hudson) Kützing


Description: Thallus filamentous usually up to 25 cms long and branched. Grows only by division of the apical cell which gives rise to 2 or 3 branches from the top of each cell and cell-elongation.

Habitat: Deep rock pools in the lower littoral and sublittoral.

Distribution: Generally around the shores of the British Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Portugal, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France.

Key Identification Features:

  • Easily identified, what appears to be a stipe is infact one long cell which branches at the top.
