Ceramium echionotum J Agardh


Description: Thallus well branched to 15 cms long. May be completely or incompletely corticated. Spines unicellular.

Habitat: Epiphytic or epilithic in the mid-littoral to10 m depth.

Distribution: Widely distributed on southern coasts of the British Isles including Scotland, the Orkneys and the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Azores, Portugal, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France, Baltic Sea and Norway. Further afield: Canary Islands.

Similar Species: Other Ceramium species with spines: C.ciliatum; C.gadiatum and C.shuttleworthianum.
