Ceramium deslongchampii Chauvin ex Duby


Description: Thallus cylindrical, erect and densely branched to 8 cms long. Older branches can be clearly seen to be corticate only at the nodes.

Habitat: Epilithic and epiphytic from upper to low-littoral.

Distribution: Widely distributed in the British Isles from the Shetlands to the Scilly Isles. Europe: Spain, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Baltic Sea, Norway and Iceland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine to Connecticut. Further afield: Canary Islands.

Similar Species: Other species of Ceramium which are without spines and corticate only at the nodes.
