Ceramium cimbricum H Petersen


Description: Thallus cylindrical, erect and branched to 8 cm long. The cortication at the nodes is clearly to seen by the naked eye.

Habitat: Relatively uncommon. Epiphytic, epizoic and epilithic from extreme low littoral to 26 m.

Distribution: Records sparse, but generally distributed around the British Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Atlantic coast of France, Netherlands and Norway. Widely distributed on the Atlantic coast of North Atlantic: Canada, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Conneticut and Long Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia and Florida. Further afield: West Indies.
