Description: Thalli form dense hemispherical cushions consisting of numerous branched, ecorticate and very delicate filaments about 7 cms long.
Habitat: Very rare. Epiphytic from low littoral to 2 m sublittoral.
Distribution: Found in the British Isles only in Dorset, Devon, Pembroke and Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean and Netherlands. Further afield: Canary Islands, North Pacific and South Africa.
Similar Species: Anotrichium barbatum is distinguished from A.furcellatum by the pyriform cells of A.barbatum.
