Rhodymenia delicatula P Dangeard


Description: Thallus small, rising from a discoid holdfast with a cylindrical stipe forming erect flattened fronds no more than 2 cms long and 3 mm broad. Fronds deviding dichotomously two or three times.

Habitat: Rare. Epilithic in lower littoral in rock pools and sublittoral to 20 m.

Distribution: Generally distributed around the British Isles. Europe: France. Further afield: Morocco.

Similar Species: Erythrodermis traillii and Schottera nicaeensis, however Rhodymenia shows a more gradual expansion of the blade from the stipe.
