Description: Unicellular, spherical. Bright red.
Habitat: On wood, walls and bare earth, littoral in estuaries and terrestial.
Distribution: Scattered records from the British Isles: Co. Down, Durham and southern England. Europe: Mediterranean, Denmark, Baltic and Sweden. Further afield: Australia and Japan.
Similar Species: Porphyridium aerugineum is unicellular and bright green.
