Phyllophora crispa (Hudson) Dixon


Description: Fronds erect and flattened to about 1 cm wide and up to 15 cms long, attached by a small discoid holdfast and short stipe. The parallel sided blades branch dichotomously with joints between the blade. New blades often grow from old blades or surface of the midrib.

Habitat: Not uncommon. Epilithic in well shaded pools of the low littoral and in the sublittoral to 30 m deep.

Distribution: Widespread around the British Isles from the Shetlands to the Channel Islands. Europe: Portugal, Spain, France, the Baltic, Norway, Faroes and Iceland. Further afield: Canary Islands.
