Description: Small uniseriate filaments to 3 cms long.
Habitat: Common. Epiphytic on other algae and Zostera in Midlittoral to shallow sublittoiral.
Distribution: Widespread in the British Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Netherlands, Norway. Atlantic coast of Noirth America: Arctic Canada to the Caribbean. Further afield: Canary Islands, Brazil and South Africa. Pacific: Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Mexico, Costa Rica and Japan. Probably cosmopolitan in temperate and tropical seas.
