Description: Thallus calcareous, articulated, to 20 cms long with pinnate branches growing from a crustose base.
Habitat: Epilithic in the lower littoral and upper sublittoral.
Distribution: Uncommon and apparently rare but probably under-recorded in the British Isles: Ireland, Wales, England and the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Azores, Portugal, Atlantic coast of Spain and France. Further afield: Artic Sea, Canary Islands, Senegal and Argentina.
Similar Species: Haliptilon squamatum and Corallina officinalis.
