Description: A flat, soft, frond growing from a small disc and stipe, usually much branched, basically dichotomously in a fan like manner to a length of 15 cms. The cystocarps are produced in marginal proliferations which can be clearly seen.
Habitat: Common. Epilithic or epiphytic on Laminaria from the upper sublittoral to over 30 m deep. In both sheltered and exposed areas.
Distribution: Widespread and generally distributed in the British Isles from the Shetlands to the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Portugal, Spain, Faroes and Norway.
