Description: Fronds rising from a discoid base of up to 4 cms across. Fronds erect, somewhat compressed and up to 70 cms long. Branching appearing pinnate.
Habitat: Epilithic in mid-littoral or low littoral pools to 10 m in the sublittoral.
Distribution: Widely distributed on southern shores of the British Isles including the south of Ireland, the Isle of Man, western Scotland and the Channel Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, the Azores, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France, Netherlands. Atlantic coast North America: Virginia anf North Carolina. Further afield: Mauritania, Caribbean, Jamaica, Brazil, South Africa and the Pacific, virtually world-wide in warm temperate seas.
