Description: Thallus a thin crust or cushion, small up to 1 mm diameter becoming globose.
Habitat: Very rare. Epiphytic on Zostera in the lower littoral and sublittoral.
Distribution: Generally of western distribution British Isles in England, Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Isles. Europe:Atlantic coast of Spain, Baltic Sea and Norway. Atlantic coast of North America: from Newfoundland to Connecticut. Further afield: the Pacific.
Similar Species: There are many small crusts which are similar and not easy to identify. Rhodophysema feldmannii; Rhodophysema elegans.
