Rhodothamniella floridula (Dillwyn) J Feldmann


Description: Thallus of fine filaments arising from an extensive creeping base of prostrate filaments to a hight of no more tham 2 or 3 cms trapping sand and silt.

Habitat: Lower littoral into the sublittoral to 5 m depth.

Distribution: Widespread in the British Isles including the Shetlands. Europe: Portugal, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France, the Netherlands and Norway. Further afield: Australia, South Africa and Tristan da Cunha.

Similar Species: There are many species of Acrochaetium which are similar, also Rhodochorton purpureum.
