Description: Prostrate axes give rise to erect fronds growing to 30 cms long, compressed, branching variable but basically pinnate and constricted at junction with main axis.
Habitat: Epilithic, in deep rock pools of the littoral into the sublittoral to depths of 2 m.
Distribution: Widely distributed on the south-western shores of the British Isles: Ireland, Wales, England, Scotland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Azores, Portugal, Spain and France. Further afield: Canary Islands, West Indies, Venezula, Indian and the Pacific Ocean: California and New Zealand.
Similar Species: Gelidium, however Pterocladiella can be distinguished by its greater length and the triangular outline of the frond.
