Description: Thallus cylindrical, polysiphonous in erect tufts to 15 cms. Branched alternate-distichously with 8 - 10 periaxial cells and corticated.

Habitat: Epiphytic, epilithic and epizoic. In rock pools of the lower littoral, rarely sublittoral.

Distribution: A south-western species of the British Isles, rare but recorded around Ireland and Orkney. Europe: Mediterranean, Portugal, Spain and France. Further afield: Morocco.
