Description: Small uniseriate filaments, erect, tufted and highly branched to 10 mm.
Habitat: Common. Epiphytic or epizoic in the lower littoral and sublittoral to 5 m. Frequently found on Palmaria palmata.
Distribution: Generally found around the British Isles from the Shetlands to the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Portugal, Spain, France, the Baltic, Norway and the Faroes. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Virginia. Further afield: California and Australia.
Similar Species: All species of Colaconemna and Acrochaetium are very similar, microscopic examination required for identification.
