Description: Thallus erect, compressed to 14 (20) cms long, distinct main axes with a terminal groove. Lateral branches irregularly alternate. Holdfast discoid.
Habitat: Epilithic or epiphytic in low water rock pools and sublittoral to 5 m.
Distribution: Generally distributed around the British Isles. Europe: Artlantic coast of France and the Netherlands. Further afield: Morocco.
Similar Species: Osmunda pinnatifida has a stolonous holdfast unlike O. osmunda which has a discoid holdfast.
