Asaphidion pallipes (Duftschmid, 1812)

Description: A small (5-6mm) bronze ground beetle, very local on sandy soil by streams or rivers on or near the coast. North-west coasts only.

NI account: Recorded only from the coasts of Sligo and Donegal Bays in north-west Ireland (Langham, 1897b; Johnson, 1905 & 1906). Not refound at these sites in recent years.

Ecology: Recorded from damp, fine sand on the banks of streams in coastal localities.

Distribution: A Eurosiberian Wide-temperate species (64) distributed across northern and eastern Europe to the Caucasus and central Siberia.

Similar Species: Asaphidion flavipes/curtum: size < 5mm; head with eyes wider than pronotum; metallic reflection faint, brassy or greenish
