Description: Microscopic creeping filaments, richly branched with short erect branches of 1 to 5 cells in length with bristle-like hairs on at least some cells.

Habitat: Endophytic or epi-endophytic on various other algae.

Distribution: Scattered records from around the British Isles including the Shetlands. Europe: Spain, France, Netherlands, Baltic Sea, Norway and Iceland. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Massachusetts, New Hampshire. Further afield: Canary Islands and the Caribbean.
