Description: In tufts of filaments, erect, attached and up to 10 cms long and of firm texture. Not branched, additional filaments rising from the rhizoidal base. Not noticeably constricted at the septum between the cells.
Habitat: Common. Littoral in rock pools.
Distribution: Probably widespread around the British Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Azores, Portugal, Atlantic coasts of Spain and France, Baltic Sea and Norway. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Long Island, New Jersey, Virginia and South Carolina. Further afield: Canary Islands, Morocco, Jamaica, Tranzania and Korea.
Similar Species: Chaetomorpha linum.
