Prasiola stipitata Suhr ex Jessen


Description: Thallus small up to 1 cm long, monostromatic fan-shaped, usually curled, with a distinct stipe. Cells in groups of 4 or 8 cells in longitudinal and transverse rows and separated from neighbouring groups.

Habitat: Common. As tufts on rock in the upper littoral or above.

Distribution: Widespread in the British Isles including the Shetlands and Channel Islands. Europe: Gibraltar, Spain, France, Netherlands, Norway, Faroes and Iceland. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Similar Species: Other species of Prasiola.
