Himanthalia elongata

Description: Mature plants are stalked and button-like about 3 cms in diameter. From this the fertile receptacles grow to a length of 1.5 m or more long and about 1 cm wide. The receptacles branch dichotomously three or four times.

Habitat: Common on most rocky shores from the mid-littoral zone to the upper sublittoral.

Distribution: the British Isles except parts of the east and south coasts of England. Europe: Portugal, Spain, France, Norway and the Faroes.
