Description: Thallus filamentous and finely branched to 15 cms or more long. Uniseriate above and more or less polysiphonous below. Branching dense and irregular, sometimes opposite or unilateral.
Habitat: Very rare. Low littoral rock pools and the shallowq sublittoral.
Distribution: Records from the British Isles few and scattered, generally westerly. Europe: France, Baltic, Norway, Spitzbergen and Iceland. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada and Massachusetts. Further afield: Atlantic Seas from Spitzbergen, Novaya Zemlaya and the Murman Sea, Japan.
Similar Species: Tilopteris mertensii (Turner) Kutzing has opposite branching unlike Haplospora.
