Eudesme virescens (Carmichael ex Berkeley) J Agardh


Description: Fronds erect to 50 cms long, filiform and irregularly branched. Core of large-celled colourless filaments and an outer layer of radially arranged, crowded monosiphonous assimilatory filaments.

Habitat: Common. Epiphytic on various algae in rock pools of the littoral and in the sublittoral to 12 m.

Distribution: Widely distributed around the British Isles including the Channel Islands. Europe: Mediterranean, Spain, France, Helgoland, Baltic Sea, Norway, the Faroes and Iceland. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Long Island. Further afield: Arctic Seas: the Murman Sea and the White Sea. Pacific: Alaska and British Columba, Japan and China. Indian Ocean: Rodiguez Island.
