Description: Erect filaments, dense, to 12 mm long arising from a fibrous discoid base. Uniseriate throughout, simple or branched towards the base.

Habitat: Epiphytic or epizoic on shells, lower littoral and sublittoral to 12 m.

Distribution: Apparently widespread on the coasts of the British Isles. Europe: Mediterranean, Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Baltic Sea, Norway, Sweden, Faroes and Iceland. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine. Further afield: Caribbean and the Canary Islands, Pacific coast of Canada, U.S.A .
