Sorocarpus micromorus (Bory) P Silva


Description: Small tufts of uniseriate filaments with secund branches bearing clusters of sporangia. The branches terminating in, or bearing laterally, colourless hairs.

Habitat: Rare. Epiphytic on larger algae.

Distribution: A few records from the Isle of Man, the north of England and Scotland. Europe: the Baltic, Norway. Greenland. Atlantic coast of North America: Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware and Virginia.

Similar Species: Many fine filamentous brown algae are similar, microscopic examination is required for identification.
